A note from Camden
The 2009 National Reunion — it’s almost here!
Preparations are made, plans are set, and only four short weeks until we see you in Colorado! I’m very pleased with the work of this year’s Reunion Committee and as they’re busily wrapping up last minute details to prepare for your arrival I wanted to give you an important update on this year’s registration.
With registration currently tracking for around 200 people, we’ll have a great Reunion this year, but unfortunately it may be shy of the 250+ attendees we need to recoup costs and begin planning for a National Reunion in 2010.
So I’m writing today to ask for your help spreading the word. If you have friends or family who haven’t registered yet please encourage ‘em to register soon! (before July 22nd for the best rate - but preferably as soon as possible)
We know it’s a tough financial year for everyone, but to keep costs low for you, we operate so dangerously close to break-even that it unfortunately leaves HSA very vulnerable to an economically tough year like the one we’re facing now.
Everything is all set for 2009, but Lord willing, and with your help, we’d love to soar past that 250 mark and be able to continue serving you with the National Reunion in 2010 and beyond.
Do you have friends or family that might be interested in the Reunion? If so, don’t be shy - help us spread the word! And if you’ve been thinking about coming to a National Reunion, don’t miss it! It’s truly a one-of-kind event!
Thanks - and see you soon!

I wish we could come.
But we’ll pass the word to anyone we can think of!

SO-oh excited to finally attend this year! I’ve been passing the word and will continue to do so! Praying as well. The HSA-ness must continue!

This is my first time as well, so I’m trying to do my part!

That’s a bummer. Last year was so well attended. I know lots of homeschoolers, but for some reason they made up their own minds whether to come or not. Homeschoolers being independant thinkers….fancy that.

Too far for us, plus too expensive. Maybe we could do something more along the lines of letting you find your own lodging and meals, and let the next reunion be a daytime event. To tell us we can’t come unless we pay for the whole package just makes it too pricey for a young homeschooling family.

Well - travel from NZ is a bit steep, but I wish you the all the best in finding more attendees!

Wish I could help, but I have to ditto Joel. You might find our situation more common as the years go on and more of us start and grow our families. I still think tent camping for a reunion would work great!
Cheap and easy…

I have to say, yes the Reunion is expensive, but if we had to find our own lodging and food (and we’re talking Colorado here) PLUS pay some sort of fee for the Reunion (and transportation) it would come to WAY more than the $250 the Reunion cost this year.
(Just got to throw in, that if the Reunion ever goes to tent camping or finding your own lodging etc. there are a lot of us who won’t be able to even consider going…)

Or would want to! Camping? In a tent? On the ground? For FOUR days?!
Ooh… I don’t know… lol
July 19th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
Aw, c’mon…y’all are wimps.
And you call yourselves homeschoolers. *shakes head* I’d do it WITH 3 kids. And enjoy it!

I’ve tried to recruit people… only managed one so far, but I’ll keep trying.
I do think it would help a whole lot if we could keep prices down (but I know you already knew that…) and other thing is you’d get a lot more local people if you could have 1 day registration fees because so many people WANT to come but because of work situations or just finances can’t afford to go to the whole thing and aren’t going to pay $250 if they can just make it one day or just to evening sessions or whatever.

I’ll be an hour away from the reunion, but can’t come like I was really wanting to.
July 19th, 2009 at 9:47 pm
Well, I recruited my sister, but now *I* can’t come.
School starts up on the 17th of August. Maybe next year the convention could be earlier in the summer, like July? I really, really want to go to an HSA reunion but just cannot right now.

I was plannign to fly out but it is pricey and I’m helping my parents with finances. Danielle from California. =(
I am spreading the word though!
July 22nd, 2009 at 4:51 pm
It is a bit too far from the UK for me.
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:23 pm
Like Becky said, school starts on August 17th for me, otherwise I might well be attending. So another time would be better. I fully intend on going to one sometime, so it would be disastrous for there not to be anymore. My prayers are with the cause.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:02 am
Unfortunately I can’t attend because the price is much to high for me to afford, plus the cost of a plane ticket, we’re talking $600+ total. Sorry.
July 24th, 2009 at 7:36 pm
Alright you talked me into it I’ll try hard to come. And bring my sister too.
July 28th, 2009 at 4:24 pm
I would love to go to another reunion, but the price has been an issue. Also, I will be starting classes August 17th, so the date makes it hard for me too. I know it would be awesome, but we just can’t make it. Wish we could. I was hugely blessed when I attended in 2007.

I agree with Ingrid. Camping just would not work out for anyone flying out there. I do enjoy camping (I have done civil war reenacting for ten years with many camping events), yet lugging camping gear that far makes it a real tough event. Also remember, if we camp the chances of rain are greatly increased.
I am very thankful for the reunion committee for doing all the work that they have put in and for keeping the price decent.
