I normally make a comment about being homeschooled in "about me" sections, but I guess on this site that would be a given. So other than that, my name is Brantley. I am actually a public high school teacher now. I teach business courses. Currently my classes are personal finance and entrepreneurship, but next year I will have a marketing program. Before that I ran In-School Suspension at the same school for a couple years. That was a very interesting experience. I have a house in the town I grew up in, which is currently filled with a few pretty awesome roommates. My house has become sort of a hang out for a lot of the single guys in my church. We also host a weekly young adults small group at my home every Friday night that I co-lead with another guy. I read a lot, mostly non-fiction. I also henjoy movies and I have a pretty fair movie collection. I do MMA and I'm also a rescue SCUBA diver. I spend most of my time outside of work hanging out with friends and family. One of my favorite uses of free time is having a good conversation on a meaningful topic. My roommates and I end up in a lot of those types of conversations. Incidentally, all three of my roommates were also homeschooled for at least part of their education.
Favorite Books:
Scripture (especially Ecclesiastes), How People Grow, The Silence of Adam, Blue Like Jazz, Good to Great in God's Eyes, Good to Great, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Next Generation Leader, Relationships, Love and Respect, Radical Reformission, Hand Me Another Brick, Don't Waste Your Life, Crazy Love, Mere Christianity (Most C.S. Lewis), Orthodoxy, The Wealth of Nations, Boy Meets Girl, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Raising a Modern Day Knight and lots more. I also have way too many books on my "to read" list.

Favorite Music:
I grew up listening to contemporary Christian music. Later I branched into Christian rock. I also like most rock, some country, some pop and a lot of 90s hits. I sometimes listen to instrumental classical music as well. I basically will try most things other than rap. I really don't care for rap. My favorite bands growing up were dc talk, Audio Adrenaline and the Newsboys. I really like it when people take old hymns with solid lyrics and set them to more modern music.

Hey Brantley,
Ok starting to get on a regular schedule now. The finals are for Intro to Psychology, Math 122, and I have midterm for my humanities course. I bet you have been busy too with school starting up! I enjoyed staying with my Grandma when I was younger too. Now that I am older I really like to be home at night. I really don't like being gone from home period. I perfer to stay home with the kids. The reason I was staying with her was to take care of her after she had her knee replaced. I actually took care of her for five days. Three at my house and two at hers.
That sounds interesting! What were your closing thoughts? It must have been something to put your entire week in perspective!
I completely agree. My teenage brother has had to experience a lot more in life in order to learn the same lessons I learned. When I look at my siblings and think to myself "Wow, you had it easy", it makes me feel a little better to know I probably learned more of life's lesson the easy way. Or at least more easily than my siblings. My parents are both first borns too. We both come by it honestly then! I'm sorry, it was like that for me too. Like you said, though, it has it's benefits. None of my friends seemed as well prepared for life as me either.
I prefer nonfiction as well. How long have you been doing MMA? It sounds like fun! Two of my brothers would probably enjoy it. The rescue diving sounds like fun too! How often would you get called out?
No, the nursing program is a program where you have to apply and wait to be placed in the program and only when you are placed can you start the classes. Here in AZ, the nursing schools follow a similar layout to medical school if that gives you a good picture. There are prereqs and coreqs. You take prereqs, then apply and finish your coreqs. It is a little bit different for me though because I am applying to a brand new concurrent enrollment program through the community college and Arizona State University. In this program I will obtain both an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Essentially I would obtain my associates and bachelors at the same time. All in two years and one semester school.
At the public school, what grade level do you teach?

Hey Brantley,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I am approaching finals, I had to stay with my Grandma Monday and Tuesday, and we had a computer problem.
I have been trying to read my Bible more. Will definitely read Ecclesiastes closely!
Yes, I am viewed more as a parental figure than a friend. Even my brother who is only 18 months younger than me comes to me when he needs help (with school usually) or money. It must be nice now that
your siblings are older you can enjoy them more as friends. There are some days I really wish that day would come and others when I just want them to stay little. I think it was. I could really relate to what the book "The First Born Advantage" had to say if you have ever read it. To put it in perspective, I would read books my Mom was reading to learn from them for my own future children (should the Lord choose to bless me), while my Mom was busy applying them to my siblings. I have read "Have a New Teenager by Friday", my Mom read it and started applying it to my siblings. We would talk about what we learned from all these different books. This is just an example of the difference between my siblings childhood and mine. When you and your Mom read Raising Godly Tomatoes together and your Mom explains to you how she is going to implement what she has learned to the children, you know things are going to be different! You said you do MMA, I hate sounding naive, but could you explain further? That is pretty neat that you are a rescue scuba diver.

Well, I only work afternoons/evenings for the most part since I have to wait till the kids are out of school to do my teaching. So except Saturdays when I teach all day and Thursdays when I teach homeschoolers in the morning I can sleep as late as I want. I'm pretty bad about it too...like 9:30/10, haha. I'm starting to work on getting it earlier now though, with the new semester starting up.

Oh wow, that's no fun! Figured you don't really get to choose your own hours being a high school teacher though.

Right; I'm not either. I'd much rather stay up late. Thankfully I don't have to work mornings much!

We have to put off the bonfire/camp out idea for now. We are going to have a lot of kittens this Fall and Dad is doing some major construction on my room now that we have found termite damage =/ I think we could still do it in the spring as long as it doesn't interfere with the national reunion. I'll keep you posted about it though.
