In the state of PA I am a certified EMT-B. I got that in December of '06, but have had little run time and experience since then. Currently I'm volunteering with the little local fire company that has a QRS truck. Last year the call volume for that was about 120 calls. With more EMTs and a very efficient EMS chief this year we should more than double that, and beat our fire compatriots as well.
I got my certification thinking that it would be a good intro for me for missionary medicine of some sort. Nurse's training is definitely not for me, but I wanted a little bit of capability and understanding in an emergency situation. Having passed and run a little bit I find that it wasn't all that I wanted really, but additional special training should be a good opportunity to build on the basics. I really want to go through Wilderness Rescue, and finish up my BVR cert.
Anyway, I enjoy doing the little that I do. Being the only believer and appropriate female in my department is very wearing... Horrid profanities abound, few members are actually married to each other, etc, etc... So I'm looking forward to God-honoring discussions and encouragement in the area of EMS and fire!! Thanks!

Do you still run on your volunteer squad? I am a PA certified EMT-B as well. I used to run on a volunteer squad but now I work for a small town agency.
