Are you a farmer or a rancher? Or what do you want to be, or do you prefer one or the other?

I'm not sure which I like better. Cattle can always make life more interesting but crops are alright to.

We are both farmers and ranchers. i don't like the crops so much, just because they tend to be more work and don't bring in a good income with all the work that goes into them!
Also, animals can be lots of fun sometimes!!

I like both, because I grew up doing a bit of both. By the way, what does SSG mean?

I want to be/marry a rancher though I'd also like to grow various crops for home use and perhaps for farmer's markets on a small scale.

I like having a diverse group of things. I am not really into the large corn fields and just cattle farming alone thing.
I would like, and am working towards complete sustainability.
Beef cows followed by goats, chickens, and turkeys. They would be mineralizing the fields (with manure) and I would use those fields on 6 year rotation for produce marketing. (7th year rest)
I will and am processing my own animals. They sell well.
Couple acres of apples and various tree fruits. Also having berries of many kinds.
Raising and saving heirloom seeds is how I roll.
All of these will be pollinated with honeybees that will generate honey and pollen also.
The advantage is you could have a bad year for one or two of these things and still do well. Not being dependent on one crop or animal for your business makes it (in my opinion) more stable.
Sometimes I think I wouldn't mindin' being a rancher of alot of cattle. I think though I lose interest when see I beef prices being so inconsistent. Processing yourself and selling direct gives more of a premium.
In a round about way I pretty much said I am not a Farmer or Rancher.

Been around farming pretty much my whole life, and work for a farmer. Just don't do much of it anymore. Been hauling seed beans and corn to dealers the past few days.
Being a bullhauler, I guess you could just call me an Asphalt Cowboy. Haul between 600 and 700 loads a year. My biggest week last year, was over 1 Million pounds of cattle.
