I am sort of new to farming/ranching although I have lived in the country and on a ranch most of my life. Sadly even though we lived on a 500 acre farm for the last 11 years we were unable to have any cattle of our own; because all of the pastures were rented out. Thankfully I was able to help with a lot of the round-ups and occasionally with feeding the beef cattle. We recently moved from our 500 acre place in Wisconsin to 190 acres of our own here in the beautiful Ozark mountains. Finally we should be able to get some animals of our own! (Cattle, hogs, Chickens etc.) But we do have a couple of obstacles to overcome... We need to put in a 1 mile fence along the south border of our place as it was never fenced, we need to create some animal shelters, and we need to clear more land as almost our entire place is tree covered. It looks like we have some work to do before we can get many cattle... So far? We have managed to get in most of our 1 acre garden...

Wow! A one acre garden?! Smile You guys are serious! Good for you! So do you miss Wisconsin? I know Missouri is different than up here, but its pretty in its own way too! Hope the fencing goes well for you guys!

Yes, we do have a large garden but it seems to take more space to grow the same amount of produce down here than it does in Wisconsin as the ground is quite rocky. I do not really miss Wisconsin, because I really love it down here. I have already made more friends among the homeschool families here than I had ever made in Wisconsin.
The scenery is gorgeous! Our highest hill is over 1700 feet high (above sea level) and we can see over 50 miles from it.
Thank you, it will be interesting to fence because of the great elevation differences on our property.
