Life goes easy on me. Most of the time."

Why yes, I AM one of those people who got married and immediately proceeded to fall off the face of the earth. Between moving to Pittsburgh, settling into Silas's very active social life (Yes, he was homeschooled. Yes, he's still one of the most social people I have ever met.), and dealing with the ups and downs of pregnancy, I haven't been online much.

Today I finally got around to updating my "about me" section, so that's all up to date now. I want to encourage all of you to hop over and say hello to my sister-in-law, Ellie, who just joined HSA. She's a super cool person. Like, super de duper cool.

I hope to do better about keeping all of you informed as to major happenings in my life over the coming months and years, etc... Remember though, if you REALLY want to keep up with me, you should be reading www.mildlyamusingmusings.com , my primary blog.

Peace out!

I am now quite happily married to my dear husband, Silas.

My brother, Rainor, walked me down the aisle.

The bridesmaids looked beautiful.

The groomsmen looked spiffy.

And pretty much everything went off without a hitch.

Silas and I are now learning how to build a life together.

We're enormously happy etc... You can see more pictures from our wedding on facebook. And you can see pictures of our new apartment on my primary blog: www.elisabethsmusings.blogspot.com

So.

The day after tomorrow I will be Silas' wife.

What a weird, weird, happy thought.

I'll be moving to Pittsburgh. Odd.

I can't get over the amazingness of it all.

Yeah.

The Fitting

Last night I stood there, looking at my reflection in the window as Margaret pinned my my dress on. It was mostly assembled, only one part of the skirt left to make. I was wearing my wicked wedding shoes and my awesome hat. It suddenly dawned on me that I actually looked like a bride. And I started to cry.

Margaret was smiling and jabbering about how awesome/amazing/perfect the dress was. I remarked that I looked something like Mary Poppins to which she replied "Mary Poppins wished she looked this good." I started talking about things we still needed to do to the dress. There was really very little left to do on the dress, but I had to talk about something so that I didn't totally lose my composure.

The dress had gone together beautifully. It needed no alterations - it just fit. I still needed to crochet and attach the cap sleeves and the lace trim for the bodice, sew on the ribbon, add a few decorative buttons and a few pearls. I also had yet to embroider Silas and I's names and the date of our wedding on the inside of the dress. All hand work, for the most part. Something for me to do while I pout about Silas being so far away.

I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting to suddenly be choked up. I have (of course) been reading wedding blogs etc... and I've read about the brides that are like "The first time I tried on my dress I cried because I knew it was the one!" But it wasn't like that. I didn't go "Oh, I look so beautiful." or "The dress is perfect" or "This wedding is going to be so awesome."

It was more like "Wow. This is Silas's bride. I get to be Silas's bride." It's not about the dress, even though it's the bomb. Or the wedding, although the wedding is going to be one rockin' party with dancing and cake and amazing friends. I get to be Silas's bride.

... for those of you who so kindly asked for them and also for those of you who refused to do so but also want to know Razz

His name is Silas Snider. He is the oldest son of and elder in our church. He moved to Pittsburgh last year, to which I shall be moving when we get married in August.

He's a teacher and he teaches computer science. He's an enormous geek with excellent taste in music. He's a libertarian (Yay!) and he's very intelligent. (You know, the kind of intelligence that occasionally makes one feel stupid.)

Cha! Life is good. Isn't my ring perfect!? I told Silas' sister I just wanted something simple and she, apparently, told him. He done good.

Silas had been courting me since January and I had a vague idea that he might propose this summer, but I wasn't expecting to see him until August. Then he showed up at my house on Saturday. Apparently my family, his family, and all of our friends knew of his impending arrival. I about died when I saw him walk up the steps of our porch. Seriously.

The Anti-Engagement photo. My eyes are closed, there's glare on Silas' glasses, and our brothers are playing football in the background.

Yeah, we're kinda happy.
