Need a Biker? Take a Biker / Have a Biker? Give a Biker

[  Mood: Cool ]

Seeing the gobs of bikes that throng Colorado (both motorized and not), two things have been bobbing around in my mind.

One is that I really should get a bicycle. I grew up riding a bicycle--why should I give it up now?

Two was remembering my childhood dream of owning a bike... a real bike. The kind with two wheels and a vrrrooomm vrrrooommm under the "hood" (aka gas tank). However, the only bikes I've ever had didn't have gas tanks, and neither does the one I bought last night. Ah, well, such is life, right?

But the bike I bought does have a engine, despite the lack of a gas tank.

If you're begging for an explanation, you might want to consider taking classes. On begging that is, because you're not doing an impressive job of it so far. Razz

But I'm a really nice guy at heart (despite appearances), and so I will relent and explain.

I just acquired a 1981 Yamaha XJ650 Maxim motorcycle (for those of you who are not "in the know", this bike looks kind of like a harley). The reason there's no gas tank is because the previous owner lost the gas tank while driving down the interstate.

I guess it's a good thing he wasn't driving the bike at the time, huh? Razz

So anyhow, he started to tear down the bike to put a turbo on it, but got another motorcycle in the meantime, and decided it would be too much work to finish this bike, so he put it up for sale. And then some cheapo who couldn't afford to buy a working motorcycle got his hands on it, thinking he could fix it up over the winter.

And that's how I ended up with the marvelous job of restoring this bike. Pretty sweet, huh?

I'm reserving my opinion until I get this baby on the road. Cool

So, I generally don't give out opinions until I have more facts...so I'll wait to give mine at a later (undisclosed) date. Razz

On second thought - I'll add that I 'might' give my opinion...since I generally don't just give it unless I'm asked to do so... Rolling Eyes

Yay for bikes! Hope you have fun fixing yours, and even more fun riding it. And I hope you bring it to the Reunion next year so other people can ride it too! (You do know I fit into that "other people" category, right? Wink)
