25 August 2008 Update

Life has been busy with moving house. I have photos from my brother's wedding. It took me a while to get them, but here they are for those that are interested in seeing me in pink tux:

***Gardening***
I have been doing a lot of gardening recently at the new house after we have moved. I took before photos and after and I am quite amazed at how nice it looks now. One of the biggest tasks was to weed the lawn, turn it all completely with a pitch fork and then level it out. I plan on reseeding it next weekend. I could probably get some biblical lesson out of the experience if I thought long enough.

***New House***
For those that cannot come visit me in the next few months (please do come visit me if you have a chance) I have put together this tour of my new house. I don't have the best equipment so you will have to live with it being out of focus often.

***Olympics***
One of the things I have always enjoyed is watching the Olympics. One of my dreams growing up was to swim at the Olympics. That won't happen, but I do really enjoy watching the swimming. Because of the time difference between the UK and China it meant getting up anywhere from 0330 - 0500 to watch. I did it because I enjoy watching them. It was also conducive to my coming home earlier from the office because I would as well start my work earlier. This mean that I was usually able to get in 1-2 hours each evening of gardening.

I had the unexpected opportunity to go swimming myself as well this past week. One of the families in the office their son wanted to go swimming at The Pools (name of the pool) in town. The father was on a business trip and was unable to take him so I took him instead. It was really fun getting in the water and swimming a few laps. It had been too many years since my last proper swim in a pool. I have been in the water a couple times, but not to swim laps.

***Work***
Lately, much of my time is spent writing. I am currently writing lots of documentation and answering a number of support emails. This past week I wrote 36 wiki articles. The articles are in an FAQ for using Exchange Server for email. The documentation is written so that an end user can follow it. I usually prefer to write my documentation for a slightly more technical level, but that was not the case this time. Last week I also posted a paper that analyses the impact of email on internet bandwidth that has been published for others to review: http://tinyurl.com/68z2wc. I sent it out to a cross missions IT email list for them to review and got very positive feedback.

***Bank Holiday***
This weekend is a bank holiday (today we don't work). So as is my custom I went on a walk. I went down to the Lake District and did a nice horseshoe around the top of Borrowdale Valley. It was the first walk I have been on since December last year that there was no inclement weather. No gales to blow me off the top of a mountain. No rain to soak me as I went along. I could see my feet and the footpath for where I was going. It was really nice change and made it enjoyable in a different way than normal.

I plan on going away on a short holiday towards the end of this week down in Wales as well.

***Prayer Requests***
1. That I would get a third housemate
2. Finances for the Exchange Server (email) project to move forward
3. An Alpha Course (evangelistic outreach) that my church is running this autumn
