***My Ankle***
This is the biggest news for me right now. I was playing ultimate (Frisbee) on Sunday at the park in Kiel, Germany. I had played for 2 hours without any issues with my ankle. I was running pretty well and not experiencing pain in the ankle. That was until I made a flying catch and landed in a gopher hole. No one was around, but the hole did my ankle in. I was in a lot of pain after that. The ankle is injured in exactly the same place as last September.
I iced it and kept it elevated the entire evening, but I just knew that something was not right. I saw the ship’s doctor on Monday morning and she recommended that I see an orthopaedic surgeon. I went, got an x-ray and was given my diagnosis in half German and half English. I had them write out the prognosis and took it to the ship’s doctor who is German. She translated and told me that I ruptured one of the three tendons in my ankle (tore the tendon off the bone). When this occurred it also took a bit of the bone with it creating what is called an avulsive fracture (from what I now understand).
This was yesterday. I am now on the train back to Carlisle where I hope to see a specialist as soon as possible.
***Logos Hope***
I had a really good time on the ship. It was interesting analysing the differences between now and when I was there last year. There are definite differences, but I found it quite hard to pinpoint them. There were obvious changes in the server room and that they have installed a large industrial air conditioner. It had not been turned on yet so I don’t know how loud it will be. Another change is that they opened the first completed public section of the ship which is the dining room.
In the evenings I played football, practised a bit of swing dancing
watched EUFA cup semi finals (soccer) with others from the ship.
On Saturday I went to a wildlife park where they had animals native to Germany.
***IT Work***
This went really well. The solution I installed for them only took half of my time on the ship to install because I have done it so many times now. After the first few days, it was a matter of fine tuning and documenting the solution for the Logos Hope. I spent the later part of my time training and making certain they could maintain the system.
I installed the Microsoft Deployment Toolkit which provides an automation methodology to create and install images of an operating system, settings, and applications. The timing was good for the Logos Hope because they get 50 brand new computers today. They now have a way to install a customized operating system with all security patches, default applications and settings in 15 minutes. This is much better than their prior solution which took 2-3 hours to do the same thing. Doing the math it would have taken them up to three weeks to setup these computers. Now it can be done in 1 or 2 days.
***Prayer Request***
My ankle. That it will heal quickly, that I will get a doctor appointment scheduled soon, that if it needs surgery I can have it done before going to the US in June.
Update: I have been able to schedule an appointment with my GP 2 hours after I arrived in Carlisle. Be praying that can see an orthopaedic surgeon soon.
