A confusing decision

I have a decision to make soon whether to go on with advanced Bible college (long-distance, through church-based small-group format) or not, and there are many factors that are making it very confusing to know what I'm supposed to do. I really need to be able to hear from God on this issue, and would appreciate prayers for His guidance and specific leading to make it clear to me what He wants me to do. Every time I think I know what factors affect the situation - finances, personal decisions, others - they change.

I'd like to know if it's a good, worthy read, as it's considered a "modern classic," but I don't want to read reviews and spoil the book before I read it.

Whatever sickness I was fighting is mostly gone. The only symptoms left are an occasional cough, which appears to be going away, and blowing my nose.

I am fighting seasonal allergy symptoms now, it appears, so it will be a challenge to keep my defenses up.

I've been somewhat less congested today, though I am coughing up phlegm at times and I've had spasms of spots in my back aching pains. My breathing continues to feel asthmatic, more some moments or hours than others. I wasn't able to go to service tonight because of the coughing, but I do thank God that my throat is no longer sore.

I'm officially and thoroughly _tired_ of being tired and sick and achy (day seven). Praise the Lord for His healing power. I need it, now! Prayers always appreciated.

I've been sick with sore/strep throat and heavy congestion for a week now. I have a bad headache and I'm worn out.

I felt better yesterday, and coughed considerably less. The congestion is slowly lessening. I was also helped by visiting my chiropractor (with the added benefit of actupunture on mi cara), but yesterday was also Friday and by noon I was feeling drained from a long week of being mostly sick. :/ In other news, I may be allergic to huevos (eggs). �! Uh-oh.

I'm beginning to feel a little better. Congested nonetheless, I made it through the afternoon at the library, thankfully. My energy level was benefited by a coworker shelving the books for me. Though working at the front desk, I had to ask my coworker to start answering all the phone calls partway through the afternoon, because I was getting hoarser and was afraid I'd startle someone!

A pain in the - wrist

I've had much pain this past week in my right wrist and hand (and some in my shoulder). Childhood injuries returned to haunt me? [I broke my wrists several times by age 11.] Arthritis? Too much library work? (probably) :sigh: It's slowing my progress at the piano, because of pain.

I'm a frequent visitor to my [wonderful] chiropractor, but adjustments alone don't seem to be relieving this mounting problem.

I probably need a brace/wrap/thingy for support, due to the stress of shelving (which requires a mallet) and handling books at work. I've never used one before, so am clueless where to begin. Suggestions/comments?

I got sick a week ago.

My sinuses had too much and the dust from the peanut harvesters put me over the top. It's seemed almost like the dust bowl around here, due to the drought. Last Sunday I woke up with a very sore throat. I missed services, and work Monday and Tuesday. Most of those three days I was very congested, achy, and sneezing, so it seemed all I did was walk back and forth to the Kleenex box. Monday I had to put salve on my nose. Tuesday I was slightly better, but not well enough to feel good. Wednesday I worked in the morning, then saw the ear nose and throat doctor in the afternoon. I was too worn out to go to church Wednesday night either. Thursday night I started a second antibiotic, that the doctor wanted me to follow up a...

Last week a sweet older couple, who recently moved to the area, visited the library for the first time. They asked the usual questions and received a library card. They both thanked me for my gracious help, and the gentleman tipped his hat to me upon leaving (upon reflection, I *think it was an tractor-ish ball cap, but I'm not sure). Such Southern gentlemen are rare anymore, and it was quite refreshing. It made me smile the remainder of the afternoon, and I haven't forgotten it.

About a month ago I discovered a neat website, called Library Thing, where anyone can catalog their library, books to read, wishlist, etc. It has become handy at the library for when I discover an interesting book I might like to read sometime, but don't have much time while working to record titles. I can copy the title or isbn, and add it to my to read list. Sooo handy.

So I was going to add a widget to my blog and/or profile showing a peek into my library, but it didn't work upon trying it. Is it not supported, or is something else the reason? Here's the code:

how the simplest little things can brighten your day?

Take for example today:

As is routine after the courier delivers the library books, and they're checked in, sorted, etc., I call the patrons that have arrived holds to let them know. Half the time I get answering machines. Others answer, and you tell them, that's it, or they sound bored or ready to get off the phone.

Occasionally people sound pleasant.

Today one of the patrons I called wasn't there to answer the phone, and her sister answered. She was quite pleased to relay the message, and asked my name (many don't know me yet since I've only been helping since January), introduced herself, and said she'd be glad to see me when they came in.

Sounds simple, right?

But it was enough to brighten the hour, and I've thought abo...

now I'll be working part-time (not sporadically, fill-in-style) in the afternoons at the library. I'll be helping in the position that was let go (front desk, circulation). I'm sad they couldn't afford to keep my friend the circulation librarian full-time (she had health benefits, to add to the cost of full time), but as my brother and mom have said, I shouldn't feel bad since they would be hiring someone part-time anyway and I can use the work (and pay). Hmm, life - I'm not sure I'll ever get used to it [life].

a friend of mine, who's been an encouragement to me the past six months or so, she was the circulation librarian at the county library, and she just found out unexpectedly today she's being laid off. Budgets. I don't know how it will affect her finances - her husband works - but she LOVED her job and was a cheerful, encouragement to everyone. It's made me really sad. I had trouble focusing on our pastor's lesson tonight, thinking about her.

Ah, the goodness of a modem that works (most of the time).

This evening I sang hymns at the nursing home in town with some of the choir for the second time, and I loved it.
Lovely hymns, voices raised in song, it just makes me feel so good. I hope (and believe) the residents enjoyed it as much as me. I feel blessed by the lyrics of those good ol' songs.

Our modem is giving us fits. It's dying. Slowly. Shakily. Which means that sometimes I can connect, mostly I cannot, and often I'm interrupted, or unable to return to the web, for hours. This is both annoying and helpful, as I can't be distracted as much.

Hopefully the poor thing will be put to rest next week and another take it's place. Until then I can't insure speedy responses to anyone or anything, but I will as I'm able.

I have been feeling better, but unfortunately my cough hasn't gone away. It kept me up late last night unable to sleep. I think I fell asleep sometime about two, after cough syrup and a cough drop. I would have read, but all the hard coughing was making my head and eyes hurt.

The librarian called yesterday and asked me to help this week, so from 1-5:30 today through Friday I will be working.

I watched a movie I'd never seen before Sunday night with my daddy, and the rest of the family watched it last night. I'm going to blog about it soon; it was really good. It's called Pit Pony, by Feature Films for Families. It far exceeded my expectations, and I'm sure it will become a ne...

Coughing, explained

Update:
My doctor said I probably have a viral infection (who knows, it may be related to all the junk my family's rotated around).

I can fill the antibiotic if I worsen (colored phlegm, etc.), but she said I can continue vitamins, vitamin c, etc.
Hopefully I'll get better soon. My cough seemed to slacken slightly this afternoon, and I managed a bike ride with the boys for 45 min. I'm not going to church 'cause I don't want to cough on everyone.

Thanks for the [continued] prayers on my behalf.

I'm writing this to ask for prayer. I'm coughing. I've been coughing since Friday, though I don't really know why, exactly. At first I thought I had a sore throat (Thursday), then I thought maybe I was catching the flu/bug everyone else in my family has been passing around for months. Now I'm still not sure. I don't really have any overwhelming symptoms (no apparent fever, or infection) only my energy is down another notch, and the little congestion I have could be simply related to my allergies. I've even wondered if I've been having asthma symptoms spawned from my allergies.

I'm praising God that the optometrist found no significant change in my vision, which means I can get the pair of (prescription) sunglasses I want, without needing to spend $$$$$ on new lenses for my regular glasses.

My Sunday

My Sunday:

I woke up late and delayed arising because there was no Sunday School today, and I didn't sleep well, I tried to ignore brother's chatter and used radio headphones for buffer.

8 am
Ate breakfast.
Pears and raisins with oatmeal. Yum
fresh eggs scrambled (protein)
My muffin was too sweet to finish. (this is common for me early in the morning)

Got ready for church, which happened to be family day at the town park.

Felt kinda awkward 'cause I don't attend the same church as...

My brother beat me to the bathroom this morning
I was late for Sunday school where I attend.
I went to service at a neighboring church instead of hearing a singer I'm not fond of,
and I got blessed by hearing a worship ensemble from a nearby university.
I very much needed the reminder of God's faithfulness that was in their songs.
God knew exactly what I needed this morning.
I also got info on that university, to add to the choices I'm looking at for this fall.
Praise God for renewed vision!

Many times I've heard the saying, "When God closes a door, somewhere he opens a window." When I've been hurt in life, or when things aren't working out the way I want, think they should, or expected, people have tried to comfort me with those words. And of course, those words are familiar from The Sound of Music.

This morning the pastor gave a thoughtful extension of those words. He said also, we don't know what's in the hallway.

I knew they educated several of their children while on tour, but it's interesting to read the principle developed earlier.

Today I began reading A Family on Wheels: Further Adventures of the Trapp Family Singers, my most recent finding from the library. It is a sequel to Maria Trapp's first book. I found chapter one about their changes quite interesting and captivating, and look forward to reading and enjoying this book as much or more than I did The Trapp Family Singers.

Near the end of chapter nineteen, a particular passage captured my attention. Aidan (David) is speaking to King Darrow (King Saul) about the Pyrthen (Philistine) giant Greidawl (Goliath):

My brother, dad and I watched The Great Escape tonight. Wow! What a cool old movie (I know, I'm a girl, but when you're the only daughter some boy things rub off on you despite yourself). I recognized several actors from watching The Magnificent Seven not long ago. Being sick with a cold has caused me to spend a lot of time listening to dramas and watching movies (the only thing to do when you've got no energy and your eyes are too tired to read). So my brother's movie pick turned out to be an interesting contrast to watching Mrs. Miniver earlier today. These war movies make me better appreciate our men in uniform.

I just finished watching an old movie I've never watched before, Mrs. Miniver from 1942. This is a neat, sentimental maybe, movie about the lives of a middle class family and those in their village in England. I haven't seen many war movies set in England, so this one was a nice change. I liked seeing Greer Garson's performance in this movie, a nice comparison to Pride and Prejudice. It makes me eager to see the later series of Little Women where she played the role of the old aunt.

My family went tonight to hear the MacDonald Family Singers. They were a great blessing; and their talent makes me want to better myself at the piano. Bluegrass is one of my favorite styles to listen to, so I was close to heaven all night.

We went to a father daughter banquet Friday night and had a nice long ride listening to Southern gospel music. I must have been the oldest girl there, which made me feel weird. Daddy's doorprize was this cool book I'd never heard of by the younger brother twins of Josh Harris. It's called Romans 12:1-3
